Maria Maclennan is an award-winning designer, researcher and educator currently based in Dundee, Scotland - The United Nation's first and only UK City of Design. An interdisciplinary designer with a background in both contemporary jewellery and service design, she has a tremendous passion for improving the lives of others through design. With a particular interest in how the principles, methods and value of design can be applied to diverse fields such as forensic science and policing; co-design, knowledge exchange and empathy are at the heart of her working approach. Her research combines practice-driven, design-led and craft-centric visual methodologies, engaging individuals as active participants within the design process.
Maria is currently a full-time Forensic Imaging Officer within the Forensic Services industry in Scotland, in addition to a freelance Disaster Response Consultant with Kenyon International Emergency Services and an occasional Visiting Lecturer in Craft and Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD). Her award-winning PhD research into the field of 'Forensic Jewellery' is the first of its kind in the world and has been met with critical acclaim internationally, earning her the title of the "World's First Forensic Jeweller".
